20-Pyeong European Style Apartment: Spacious and Functional!

In a 20-pyeong space, a returnee from Switzerland wanted to recreate the living experience she cherished abroad. Chuan Yin Design Team rose to the challenge, crafting a home perfect for both the homeowner's solitary lifestyle and family gatherings. Author Ellen takes us on a tour of this modern apartment, where a reduction in the number of rooms has made way for an open kitchen, an island bar, and a multifunctional dining table. Let's explore how this space strikes the perfect balance between openness and functionality. 🏠🍃

The Essence of Open Space Living 🚪 Emphasizing the homeowner's current needs and desire for an open feel, the design team transformed the original layout. They removed one room, expanding the living area and introducing an open kitchen concept familiar to the homeowner. The lesser focus on enclosed storage cabinets and the choice of open shelving and hanging racks cater to the homeowner's preference for a spacious, uncluttered environment.

A Refined Entryway 🌟 The entrance area, cleverly combined with the storage room's pathway, creates a standalone foyer-like space. The use of black tiles in this area not only defines it visually but also extends outward, enhancing the feeling of spaciousness throughout the home.

Living Room: A Nod to Swiss Apartments 🛋️ Inspired by the homeowner's memories of Swiss apartments, the living room features dark wood flooring, contrasting furniture, and decorative elements that reflect personal style. The design team has skillfully incorporated a closed cabinet for electronics, while other storage needs are met with open shelving and flexible furniture, creating a dynamic and adaptable living space.

Dining Room: Versatile and Stylish 🍽️ With the elimination of one bedroom, the space behind the sofa has been transformed into a dining area. A large table serves multiple purposes, from dining to working from home. The visually focused design of the shelving and wooden columns in this area complements the overall design language of the apartment.

Kitchen: Functional Elegance 🍳 Though not frequently used for cooking, the kitchen is an integral part of the homeowner's weekend family gatherings. The neutral color palette allows the kitchen to blend into the background on regular days, while the island bar facilitates easy snack preparation and family interaction.

Bathroom: Soothing and Practical 🛁 The main bathroom has been equipped with a bathtub to suit the homeowner's preference for baths. The choice of green tiles and various materials adds depth and creates a layered effect, enhancing the overall aesthetic.

Unseen Details: Storage Solutions 🗄️ Despite the homeowner's initial inclination towards minimal storage, the design team proposed innovative solutions, including a storage room for large items and floating cabinets for smaller objects. This approach ensures that the homeowner's storage needs are met without compromising the apartment's open and airy feel.

This 20-pyeong European-style apartment beautifully illustrates how to maximize space functionality while maintaining an open, uncluttered atmosphere, perfectly suited to the homeowner's lifestyle and preferences. 🌼🏡✨
