Cabinet Crisis Averted for Roomy Vibes!
When the owners, a family of four, snagged this four-bedroom second-hand gem, they were more about chill space than cabinet race. They wanted to dial down the woodwork and system cabinets. So, how did the designers at Chuang Jing Design turn this cabinet-crazy layout into a spacious haven? Let's find out!
1. Spacious Living Area, Bye-bye Third Room!
With two adults and two kiddos, the master and two other bedrooms were plenty. The design team transformed the third bedroom next to the living room into a multifunctional study. With moveable doors and a long table replacing the solid wall, it can merge with the living room for a mega-spacious area, yet can be closed off for undisturbed reading time.
2. Cleverly Handling Awkward Spaces
Dealing with immovable columns and a weirdly shaped area by the windows, the team did a quick switcheroo of the living and dining areas. They rotated the sofa and TV by 90 degrees and added a lengthy daybed by the windows. This not only evened out the uneven floor but also created a 'Yokan' (Japanese style edge) design, perfect for dining or kids' playtime.
▲ A 100 cm wide daybed by the window makes for a cozy sit-down or play area.
Before & After Magic
▲ The living room got a total makeover with a comfy daybed by the window, perfectly complementing the dining area.
3. Entrance and Living Room Tricks
Using the awkward space by the main door, the designers crafted an invisible storage room. Step inside, and you're greeted with a vast area combining the living room, dining room, and study - all without too many cabinets, keeping the space bright and cozy.
▲ A mini storage room hidden in the entrance wall provides handy storage right at the door.
4. Dining Room Delight
Next to the dining table, a structural column created an odd nook. Instead of bulky cabinets, the team opted for a sleek half-height floating cabinet with thin iron shelves in a tea-wood tone. This provides handy storage without cramping the space, and a lowered daybed by the window adds a unique spot for adults to sip tea or kids to play.
▲ Light curtains soften the space while the structural column's odd corner is smartly utilized.
5. Study Room Smarts
The multifunctional study, once a narrow bedroom, now uses double-track sliding doors to connect more closely with the main living area. Open for big gatherings or close for focused work sessions. The fixed, legless table design is sleek and practical, fitting the whole family and featuring built-in power outlets for gadgets galore.
▲ The sliding doors add flexibility and light to the area.
6. Master Bedroom Bliss
A subtle shift of the walls in the master bedroom allowed for essential storage while keeping with the home's simple design. A private sanctuary free of clutter, with gentle tones and wooden floors, complemented by natural light for a stress-free zone.
Hidden Decor Gems: Minimal Storage, Max Space
Unlike most, these owners believe in less is more, keeping their stuff to a minimum. They said no to bulky cabinets, opting for thin shelves and cabinets to reduce the storage presence. They value living space comfort over things, resulting in a bright, spacious, and uncluttered home.
So there you have it! A 35-ping wonder, where smart design meets spacious living, proving you don't need cabinets galore to store your life's treasures! 🌟🛋️
