Breaking Free from Dull Spaces: A Fresh Nordic Home Transformation

🏡 Journey to a Nordic Wonderland: We've turned a 30-year-old, 11-ping (36.36 square meters) townhouse into a chic Nordic paradise, ready to reveal the first floor's transformation!

1. Why We Decided to Redo: Life in a rented space made us crave a place of our own. So, we decided to renovate my husband’s long-vacant family house. Our vision? A live-work hybrid with a showroom concept on the first floor.

2. Before the Makeover: This four-story townhouse, though structurally sound, had its fair share of quirks – a narrow kitchen, a gloomy bathroom, and the only light source being a tiny window above the wall.

3. Design Focus & Layout Planning: Our goal? Brighten up the space with natural light and make it more functional. We reshuffled the kitchen to line up with the staircase, opting for a linear kitchen layout with ample cabinetry. The bathroom and back balcony doors were replaced with glass ones, flooding the area with light. Our theme: light colors to enhance the Nordic vibe.

4. The Big Reveal: Living Room:

  • A white theme with wood accents to add warmth.

  • Minimal decor to keep things neat and spacious.

  • A projector instead of a TV, with a handy storage unit behind the sofa for the equipment.

  • A floating TV unit for storage and a home for the robot vacuum.

  • A versatile light fixture to adjust as per need.

  • Plugs behind the sofa for convenience.

Dining Room:

  • Wooden dining furniture for a cozy mealtime atmosphere.

  • A custom metal shelf for displaying art, books, and decor.

  • Storage under the stairs for camping gear.

  • Shelves along the staircase to display items.

Kitchen:

  • Frequent cooks, we tiled the walls and floor for easy cleaning.

  • Large tiles in the same color scheme to make the space look bigger.

  • Partial upper cabinetry to reveal the textured wall.

  • A custom stone niche for kitchen essentials.

  • Metal shelves for utensils.

Bathroom:

  • Continuing the kitchen tile theme for a unified look.

  • Different light-colored tiles for a layered feel.

  • A floor basin for an elegant touch.

  • A sliding door to save space.

  • Larger windows for natural light, with blinds for privacy.

  • Greenery to enliven the space.

5. Living Experience: Half a year in, we're loving the bright, comfortable space. Cooking has become more frequent, and guests are always impressed. If you're in the area, feel free to drop by Qing Qing Daily!
