The challenge for Chao Space Design was to craft a timeless abode that balances functionality, aesthetic appeal, and the preferences of both generations.
Space Planning Essentials
From the get-go, trust was established, largely thanks to a referral from a satisfied client. The design team's initial discussions on-site with the homeowners centered around creating an open kitchen and expanding the dining area to foster family interactions. The father, an avid reader and calligrapher, desired a quiet corner for his hobbies. The chosen color palette of apricot, white, and warm gray, accented with black wood grain and deep walnut tones, set the stage for a bright yet serene living environment.
Entryway Evolution: Crafting a Dual-Entry Space
Originally lacking a defined entryway, the designers introduced a clear demarcation for the entryway, enhancing the transition from the outside world with an elegant archway. Practical yet stylish storage solutions on either side, including a versatile pegboard and shoe cabinet, ensure a clutter-free entrance. A strategically placed mirror not only allows for last-minute appearance checks but also visually expands the space, softening the entrance with its reflective quality.
Dining and Kitchen Integration: A Cohesive Culinary Haven
The original narrow hallway leading to the kitchen was removed to merge this space with the dining area, creating a modern semi-open kitchen. The central island, replacing a traditional dining table, serves as a multifunctional hub for cooking, dining, and socializing, enhancing the room's utility and interaction opportunities.
Living Room Design: Subtle Sophistication
The living area, adorned with natural texture paint and curved design elements, offers a clutter-free space conducive to relaxation and family time. The design cleverly incorporates a beam, using it to frame the TV area and adding depth to the room without overwhelming it.
