Glass Doors & No TV Wall: My Bright 26-Ping Japanese Home Reveal 🌿🏠

Hey, home decor enthusiasts! Ever dreamed of living in a space that breathes tranquility with a touch of Japanese elegance? Well, join me as I unveil my 26-ping sanctuary that's a testament to smart design and serene living. Buckled up? Let's dive into this heartwarming journey of transformation from an old house to a cozy, light-filled haven.

The Spark for Change: Nestled in our rented abode, as our little ones sprouted and our savings for a dream home blossomed, we set our hearts on a space that could morph into a 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom haven with ample light. Our quest ended with an aged 26-ping property, ripe for a revamp.

Before the Magic: Stepping into the past, our new home was draped in dark woods and an over-the-top ceiling design that weighed heavily on the ambiance. The layout? Let's just say it was more of a maze than a home, with a cramped public area and a kitchen that felt more like a closet.

Finding Our Design Heroes: Our hunt for a design team led us to 若葉設計 (Wakaba Design), whose portfolio of Japanese-inspired interiors had us at hello. Our initial chats felt more like brainstorming sessions with old friends, and soon, they were on board to bring our vision to life.

Crafting the Wishlist: Armed with a PowerPoint (yep, we went full corporate on this one!), we laid out our desires:

  • A Japanese aesthetic, sprinkled with wooden grilles for that Zen vibe.

  • An expanded public area for the kids to frolic freely.

  • A secluded study for those deep work sessions.

  • A kitchen that's both functional and spacious (open kitchens were a no-go for us).

  • Ample storage to tuck away our worldly possessions.

  • Niche nooks in the bathroom for a clutter-free cleanse.

The Grand Plan: Wave goodbye to the old and embrace the new. The living room found a new spot, the dining and kitchen areas breathed expansively, and our master suite became a seamless flow of sleep, dress, and refresh.

The Big Reveal:

  • Entryway Elegance: Greeted by hexagonal tiles and a chic glass screen, our foyer now sets the tone for the home, offering both privacy and an inviting openness.

  • Living in Light: Opting out of a conventional TV wall, we chose a flexible projector screen that tucks away, leaving the space uncluttered and the ambiance undisturbed.

  • Study Sanctuary: Bathed in natural light, our study is a glass-doored haven of productivity, seamlessly blending with the living area when open.

  • Dining Delights: Our dining setup, with its wall-hugging table and mix of bench and chairs, maximizes space without sacrificing flow.

  • Culinary Corner: The kitchen, once a cramped afterthought, now gleams with functionality, its gadgets wisely tucked away yet within easy reach.

  • Master Retreat: Our bedroom, a blend of coziness and practicality, features a bespoke bed-back fitting snugly against a unique column, doubling as a vanity.

Living the Dream: Navigating the world of renovation was a rollercoaster, but with our design team's expertise, we've crafted a space that's not just a house, but a home. Every corner, every choice reflects our journey towards a lifestyle that values simplicity, functionality, and beauty.

And for those curious about where we picked our pieces:

  • Sofa: AJ2's Odense

  • Dining Table & Chairs: The ever-reliable IKEA

There you have it, folks. A peek into our personal slice of paradise. Here's to homes that heal and spaces that inspire. 🍵✨
