Maximizing Space in a Cozy 20-Ping Home: The Ultimate Reveal

🏠 The Quest for a Perfect Home: Our journey to homeownership began after tying the knot. As former renters, the dream of having our own space was irresistible. We finally found a gem with a great layout, convenient location, and fantastic lighting. The cherry on top? The developer included wooden flooring, hitting right at our wishlist without breaking the bank!


1. Background of the Purchase: Our desire for a place of our own was fueled by our marriage and a longing to break free from renting. We stumbled upon this property, which tickled our fancy with its potential, despite its age and standard layout.


2. The Hunt for a Designer: Post-purchase, it was clear that a redesign was necessary to fit our vision. We wanted a second bedroom and an efficient layout. We dived into the internet and fell for Ke Rui Design's portfolio, which resonated with our taste and needs.


3. Layout Transformation & Requirements: Before & After Layouts:

  • Added a second bedroom.

  • Ditched the dressing room for a spacious primary bedroom with a full wardrobe and a vanity area.

  • Crafted a functional entrance with a shoe bench and storage, keeping Feng Shui in mind.

  • Integrated a study with the dining area, with unique features and lots of storage.

  • Emphasized on ample storage and plug points, drawing from our rental experiences.

  • Aimed for a cozy, timeless style with a tea-color and wooden theme.



4. Original House Condition: The wooden flooring laid by the developer was a significant plus, saving us money and effort.




5. The Renovation Process:

  • Tearing down walls for the primary bedroom.

  • Constructing a curved entryway bench and a wooden ceiling.

  • Painting in tea-color tones.

  • The final touches coming together.






6. The Grand Reveal: Entrance:

  • Integrated a screen and shoe bench with storage.

  • Chose a curved design for an open, soft look.

  • Installed sensor lights for convenience.







Living Room:

  • Opted for wood-look tiles for ease of cleaning.

  • Designed a minimal TV unit with open shelving in black for a visual contrast.

  • Prepared a space for the robot vacuum.

  • Rounded edges on cabinetry to match other curved elements.



Dining/Work Area:

  • Combined dining and work functions in a complex space.

  • A recessed area with outlets for laptops and phone charging.

  • Planned storage for frequent use items and computer accessories.

  • Sliding doors for easy access without moving furniture.





Bedroom:

  • Extended the room for a comprehensive wardrobe and vanity.

  • Indirect lighting for a cozy ambiance.

  • Separate lighting for the vanity to avoid disturbing sleep.

  • Dual switches for convenience.
