🏡 Home Sweet (Renovated) Home: A 30-Year Old House Gets a Stylish Makeover! 🏡
After living for three decades in a house that slowly showed its age, it was finally time for a renovation! Thanks to Yijiao Design's magic, our once dark and cramped home is now a bright and cozy haven we can't wait to return to every day.
🛠️ The Journey to Renovation Living for nearly 30 years without a major makeover, our home began to reveal issues like peeling tiles and insufficient storage. The opportunity to renovate came when our neighbors moved out – a perfect temporary home for us during the remodel! After some hasty packing, we embarked on our renovation journey with Yijiao Design, chosen for their creative flair and attention to detail.
🏚️ Before the Makeover Our home was once a dark space, cluttered with store-bought furniture that didn't utilize space efficiently. The kitchen was tiny, and our single bathroom was a logistical nightmare for our family of three.
📋 Our Renovation Wishlist With little time for research, we left the style and color choices to our kids, only insisting on easy-to-clean surfaces. After several family meetings, our main requests were:
Basic Construction Work: Addressing foundational issues like damp walls and tiles.
Kitchen and Dining Area: Transforming our cramped kitchen into an open, spacious area with plenty of storage.
Additional Bathroom: Adding at least a half-bathroom for convenience.
Ample Storage: Maximizing storage while keeping it accessible and easy to organize.
📐 The New Layout To open up the communal space, the kitchen was redesigned into an open concept with an L-shaped island. An additional half-bathroom was added for convenience, and ample storage was integrated throughout the home, especially around the TV wall and entrance area.
📸 The Big Reveal: After Renovation We eagerly monitored the transformation of our home, and the result was well worth the wait!
👞 Entrance Area The entrance now features a sleek coat rack with a shoe bench that doubles as storage – a clever use of space!
📺 Living Room The TV wall, with its wave pattern design, now houses ample storage space, cleverly concealing beams and uneven walls for a sleek look.
🍽️ Kitchen and Dining The open kitchen with its L-shaped island has become my favorite spot, perfect for cooking and relaxing with a cup of coffee. The glass partition between the kitchen and living room maintains an open feel while containing kitchen clutter.
👦 Son's Room The son's room, with its glass and frosted sliding door, maintains privacy without sacrificing light. A large desk and open wardrobe meet his storage and study needs.
👧 Daughter's Room In a warm pink hue, the daughter's room features a full wall of closets, offering plenty of storage.
🚿 Bathroom The bathroom, with its sleek gray tones and wet-dry separation, is now more functional and stylish.
👗 Clothing Storage Tips for Renovators Renovating an old house can be daunting. Focus on essential renovations like electrical and plumbing work. Quality and cleanliness at the construction site are key. A great design team, like Yijiao Design, can make the process smoother and more satisfying.
