Home Sweet (Compact) Home: Bought a brand-spankin' new 28-ping pad, the homeowner aimed to amp up the space efficiency with decor tweaks and dial down the color drama to minimalist chic. Let's see how the design squad pulled off this small-space wonder!
Layout Revamp & Decor Highlights
"We had a three-bedroom plan that felt more like a sardine can, so we ditched a room and got creative," shared the designer from Two-Shape Room Chen Shu Construction. With two adults and a kiddo, they needed a comfy yet functional space. So, they scrapped one bedroom, opening up the living room for more light and visual depth. They replaced dividing walls with a sofa, creating an open study area. Each nook, especially the dining area, had to count, so they crafted a multi-functional storage unit along the pillar, merging the entryway, dining, and kitchen for a space-smart solution.
Public Area: Furniture Over Walls
In a space-starved setting, walls are so passĆ©! In the merged living, dining, and study area, furniture becomes the new boundary maker. The sofa stands alone, with a desk behind it, marking the living from the study. The dining area, snug in the hallway, features an extendable table ā perfect for fluctuating diner numbers.
Living Room: Stacked Styling for a Focal Point
As the home's frontispiece, the living room TV wall gets a facelift with asymmetrical 'arc stacking.' This subtle curve not only softens the rigid beams but also visually expands the space. The material layering hides the TV cabinet, making the front neat and functional.
Study: A Multi-Functional Long Table
With remote work in mind, the design team used the sofa's back to carve out space, adding a short daybed by the window. This three-seater table doubles as a workspace and TV lounge, with built-in sockets for laptops and chargers.
Dining Room: Size-Changing Table, Zero Waste Space
Adapting to a rise in eating out, the homeowner's dining needs vary. Hence, a telescopic table from the dining cabinet makes space flexible. The protruding pillar was a challenge, but the design team used its three sides for multi-functional storage.
Private Area: Clever Storage in Odd Corners
In the master bedroom, an awkward nook by the bathroom becomes prime wardrobe real estate. A glass-door cabinet with a dresser replaces the need for extra furniture, and a hidden cabinet with open shelves allows for versatile storage.
Design Secrets Revealed
Right from the get-go, the homeowner's love for low-saturation hues shaped the design. The team skipped flashy colors, highlighting the raw beauty of materials. They chose oatmeal white with natural textures, sketching a subtly refined space. Some cabinets play with staggered depths, creating a harmonious chaos in 3D.
So there you have it - a 28-ping wonderland where every inch counts and every hue whispers sophistication! šš”
