Ever felt boxed in by low beams in your home? Doreen shares a case of a 20-year-old house revitalized by Hezhu Design, transforming a constricted space into a delightful abode, perfect for a family's evolving needs. The challenge? To accommodate the dad’s model airplane hobby, the mom’s yoga routine, and the daughters’ love for baking, all while preserving a four-bedroom layout for grandma's visits.
Here's how they did it:
1.Layout Redesign:
The initial 4-bed, 2-living, 3-bath layout was cramped.
The new design keeps four bedrooms but cuts down one bathroom.
The main focus shifted to the kitchen, enlarging it with an added island, perfect for family gatherings.
One bedroom near the balcony doubles as a dining room and guest room, separated from the living room by a sliding door, allowing sunlight to permeate.
2. Surface and Storage Design:
The challenge was to integrate practical needs with aesthetic appeal.
The visual journey from the dining wall through various recesses and protrusions in the walls adds depth, alleviating the cramped feel.
The high cabinet at the entrance, blending seamlessly into the wall, subtly handles storage while keeping the space airy and clean.
3. Master Bedroom:
Focused on the mom’s needs: a quiet space for yoga and a dressing area with a makeup table.
A cozy exercise nook by the window, cleverly integrating a full-length mirror on the wardrobe sliding door.
4. Dad’s Workshop:
Relocated next to the entrance for ease of access.
Custom features include ventilation for soldering, a fireproof mat, and a pegboard for tools.
A "landing strip" for model airplanes on the ceiling conceals a structural beam.
Hezhu Design's approach shows that with thoughtful planning, a home can fulfill diverse needs without feeling cramped. The attention to detail in creating a comfortable, pressure-free space has brought immense satisfaction to the homeowners, proving that sometimes, the most impactful changes are in the subtlest of details.
